Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
A post-doctoral associate position is available in the field of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and mitochondrial function. Projects will involve investigating various mechanisms regulating mitochondrial function during various physiological states and in the pathophysiology of liver disease. The laboratory uses a variety of techniques including stable isotope based metabolic profiling by mass spectrometry, live cell imaging and measures to understand cellular molecular mechanisms. Research will include studies in cultured cells and diet-induced and transgenic rodent models of insulin resistance. Opportunities and training in experimental design, data analysis and processing, mentoring and laboratory management, grant writing and manuscript preparation are available through this position.
We seek outstanding scientists with a Ph.D. in the broad areas of animal science, nutrition, biochemistry and metabolism.
Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in investigating mechanisms of metabolic disease, utilizing animal models and cell culture systems of insulin resistance/obesity/type 2 diabetes. Training in mass spectrometry is highly desirable. Knowledge in a variety of molecular techniques to investigate cellular metabolism is highly desirable. Candidates with strong interdisciplinary training in the areas of animal science, biochemistry, nutrition and metabolism are encouraged to apply.
